An ancient ecclesiastical treasure in occupied Northern Cyprus has undergone emergency restoration.

Greek and Turkish Cypriot conservationists teamed up to restore the 12th-century St. Marina Church in the village of Avgolida on the Karpas Peninsula, reports Sotos Ktoris, the co-chairman of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.

The restoration was carried out with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme.

The Church of St. Marina is a small, single-nave basilica. It means 20 x 8 feet. The frescoes that once adorned the inside of the church have not survived.
