Thousands of Greek Orthodox faithful filled the Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen in Piraeus over the past week to venerate the visiting relics of the great Russian ascetic St. Seraphim of Sarov.

The church welcomed the relics and miraculous icon of St. Seraphim on Monday, January 22, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

“Despite the bitter cold that prevails in Piraeus, many pilgrims waited with joy for St. Seraphim, where they welcomed him with ringing of bells.”

The relics were brought by Elder Nektarios (Moulatsiotis), abbot of the Monastery of Sts. Augustine of Hippo and Seraphim of Sarov in the Metropolis of Phokis. They remained in the church until the evening of Sunday, January 28.

Elder Nektarios offered lectures every day and also blessed the faithful with a cross containing a portion of the True Cross of Christ.
