On March 16, the Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos at the Morozov Children’s Clinical Hospital in Moscow was consecrated by the head of the Russian Church’s Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service.

The consecration and subsequent Divine Liturgy were celebrated by His Grace Bishop Panteleimon of Verey, the Charity Department reports.

“Today we’ve consecrated a wonderful, magnificent church, where various forms of social service are conducted. Sisters of Mercy work here, who visit as many patients as in any other hospital in Moscow. They support and comfort both young patients and their parents. A large number of volunteers are also involved in helping sick children,” Bp. Panteleimon said after the consecration.

The construction of the Holy Protection Church began in April 2019, when a cornerstone was consecrated and laid and a wooden cross was erected. It replaces a chapel that was built in 1901-1906 and destroyed in the 1970s.

Today, volunteers from the Orthodox relief service Mercy come to the Morozov Hospital to do creative and development activities with the children.
