Following Parliamentary request, criminal case opened over beating of Orthodox Christians in central Ukraine

Ladyzhyn, Vinnitsa Province, Ukraine, April 12, 2024

On April 2, a group of about 30 young men burst into the home of Archpriest Evgeny Vorobyov, which was doubling as a worship space for his parish community of the Kazan Icon after their church was physically seized in January.

The men, employees of a local security company who were hired by representatives of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” ransacked the house and brutally beat Fr. Evgeny and other parishioners. The priest was beaten during the January seizure as well. Police were present at the scene in early April but stood idly by.

More than a week later, a criminal case has been launched, only following the appeal of Artem Dmitruk, a Parliamentarian deputy known for his defense of Orthodoxy in Ukraine.

Dmitruk wrote on his Telegram channel yesterday that he received law enforcement’s response to his deputy’s appeal and demand to bring the thugs to justice.

According to the letter published by the MP, an official investigation has been launched into the beating itself and the fact that police officers failed to fulfill their official duties.

Pre-trial investigations are also being conducted with the forgery of documents by the OCU in order to take over the Kazan Church.
