A new Bulgarian Orthodox elementary school has been officially registered with the state and will open in the Vidin Diocese next school year.

The Metropolitan Neofit of Vidin School, a joint initiative of the Vidin Metropolis and the Metropolitan Neofit of Vidin Elementary School Foundation, was entered into the state’s Register of Institutions on March 22. It will be housed in the building of the old diocesan school, reports the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

The founders of the school “strive to realize the ideal of modern education, combining the best contemporary achievements and practices with Orthodox spirituality, which is traditional for Bulgarian schools.”

The school aims to help students “embody the eternal Christian virtues of love for God and neighbor, mutual aid and compassion, love of learning and diligence, peace and creativity.”

The school bears the name of His Eminence Metropolitan of Vidin, who served the diocese from 1914 to 1971, and with whose blessing the first diocesan school was founded.
