President of St. Vladimir’s Seminary, Fr. Chad Hatfield, retires

St. Vladimir’s Seminary (Orthodox Church in America) in Yonkers, New York, announced the retirement of its president, Archpriest Chad Hatfield yesterday.

Fr. Chad served 17 years at the seminary, first as chancellor, then as president. He was also rector of the school’s Three Hierarchs Chapel. His retirement, approved at the 2024 spring semi-annual meeting of the St. Vladimir’s Board of Trustees, takes effect July 1, the seminary reports.

Fr. Chad will continue as the professor of Pastoral Theology through the end of 2024.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada, Chairman of the seminary board, stated:

Fr. Chad’s leadership has been transformative for the seminary. His commitment to service in the Church and for the Church has preserved and strengthened the legacy of St. Vladimir’s Seminary as a beacon of Orthodox Christian education. We are immensely grateful for his unwavering dedication to upholding the teachings of the Orthodox Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The seminary will launch a comprehensive search for Fr. Chad’s replacement over the course of the summer. Academic Dean Dr Ionuţ-Alexandru Tudorie will serve as interim president.
