A new parish of the Romanian Orthodox Church was established in England on Sunday.

His Grace Bishop Atanasie of Bogdania, vicar of the Romanian Diocese of Italy, celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the community, named in honor of the Myrrh-bearing Women, on the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing Women in Aylesbury, near Oxford, reports the Basilica News Agency.

The first service for the Aylesburg community was held in 2018, with periodic services on great feasts since then. The community grew over time, and on Sunday, Bp. Atanasie installed Fr. Iulian Rusu as parish priest and also ordained a deacon for the parish.

The service was sung by the Patriarchal Cathedral’s Tronos psaltic group.

His Grace stressed the importance of preaching and understanding the mystery of the Resurrection through the image of the Myrrh-bearing Women, who showed fearlessness, fidelity and full commitment. Remaining with Christ in the pain of sufferings, in the silence of death, they were the first to taste the joy of the Resurrection.
