A young abbot from the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church reposed in the Lord on Sunday, May 26, after a long battle with the consequences of a tragic car accident in January 2022.

Archimandrite Agapit (Shpinyak), the former abbot of St. John the Theologian Monastery in the Mukachevo Diocese, was just 36 years old, reports Orthodox Life.

Fr. Agapit was also head of the diocesan youth department, and the initiator, organizer, and an active participant in many charitable and social projects.

After the accident in 2022, Fr. Agapit was unconscious in the ICU for a long time. He underwent several operation and long-term rehabilitation. Despite the severe consequences of the accident, which eventually claimed his life, he tried to return to serving others.

OrthoChristian previously reported about Fr. Agapit in September 2019, when he and another priest held a mass Baptism for more than 30 Gypsy children in the Mukachevo Diocese.
