Metropolitan of Berat (Albania) reposes in the Lord

His Eminence Metropolitan Ignat of Berat, Vlorë, and Kaninë reposed in the Lord in a hospital in Athens on Saturday, July 20, following a three-year illness.

Met. Ignat was 89 years old. He served the Church in the episcopal dignity for 28 years, reports the Albanian Orthodox Church.

A Trisagion was served for the repose of his soul in the chapel at the Holy Archdiocese of Tirana. His funeral will be served in the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Demetrios in Berat on Tuesdaym July 23.

Met. Ignat (Triantis) was born in Thebes on November 9, 1934. He studied at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens and the Piraeus Conservatory.

He served as a preacher and lay teacher in the Archdiocese of Athens. In 1967, he was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood and served in Thebes.

He served as abbot of the Holy Monastery of St. Luke in Livadia (1968-1976), and the Monastery of St. Seraphim in Domvu (1975-1996), as a preacher (1972-1992), and spiritual father of the Metropolis of Thebes (1962-1996).

He was elected as Metropolitan of Berat in the Albanian Orthodox Church on June 24, 1992. He was consecrated on July 27, 1996.
