The relics of two great 20th-century Romanian confessors were solemnly uncovered at monasteries near Bucharest on Monday.
In particular, the relics of St. Dumitru Stăniloae were exhumed from the cemetery at Cernica Monastery in the Bucharest suburb of Pantelimon, and the relics of St. Sofian (Boghiu) were exhumed at Căldărușani Monastery in Șoseaua, 40 minutes northeast of Bucharest.

Sts. Dumitru and Sofian, together with 14 other confessors and martyrs of the Romanian Communist yoke, were canonized by the Romanian Holy Synod on July 11-12.
The services of exhumation were celebrated by His Grace Bishop Timotei of Prahova, vicar of the Archdiocese of Bucharest. The saints’ remains were placed in new coffins and will later be placed in specially prepared reliquaries for the liturgical celebration of their canonizations next year.
“The time has come for the Lord’s elect to be moved from the cemetery to the church and to be a joy and a model for the faithful, as it was during life,” said Bp. Timotei.
The relics of St. Raphael (Hawaweeny) of Brooklyn were exhumed at the Antiochian Village in Pennsylvania earlier this month.
