Mt. Sinai, August 8, 2024
St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mt. Sinai has issued a statement denying the report on Vima Orthodoxias on August 7 that the Coptic church is attempting to seize monastery property.
Yesterday, OrthoChristian reported that “Greek Orthodox media is warning of attempts by the Coptic church to seize the ancient St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mt. Sinai.”
Today, August 8, His Eminence Archbishop Damianos of Mt. Sinai issued the following statement:
His Eminence Archbishop Damianos, abbot and representative of St. Catherine’s Monastery, categorically denies any connection to the news published on the website vimaorthodoxias.gr on 7/8/2024.
He also denies any involvement of the Coptic Church in the affairs of the monastery's properties currently being circulated.
It should be noted that the relationship between St. Catherine’s Monastery and its head and the Coptic Church and His Holiness the Pope is strong and characterized by cooperation and friendship.
