Metropolitan Onuphry gives backpacks to 300 children from displaced families

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine blessed hundreds of children and distributed backpacks with school supplies to them for the upcoming school year over the weekend.

The Ukrainian primate gave the backpacks to 300 children from internally displaced families after celebrating the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Ascension-Florovsky Monastery in Kiev on Saturday, reports the UOC Department for Social and Humanitarian Affairs.

The event was part of the annual Backpack of Mercy program. His Beatitude also served a moleben for the start of the new school year.

Each backpack and set of school supplies cost about $75 (3,000 hryvnia), the department notes.
