Boćki, Podlaskie Voivodeship, Poland, September 2, 2024
An Orthodox parish in northeastern Poland held a manifold feast late last month, celebrating several important anniversaries at the same time.
The Orthodox parish of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in Boćki is celebrating its 500th anniversary this year, as well as the 200th anniversary of its current church, which was festively reconsecrated on the patronal feast day on August 28 after 10 years of renovation work, the parish reports.
The parish anniversaries also fell in the year of the 100th anniversary of Polish Orthodox Church autocephaly.
The feast was led by His Eminence Archbishop Grzegorz of Bielsk and His Grace Bishop Warsonofiusz of Siemiatycze, with clergy from three dioceses.
“The consecration of a church is a very important and exceptional event not only for the local community but also for the entire Church in Poland. The road to achieving this goal was very long, sometimes winding, but thanks to the perseverance of the parish priest, the support of parishioners, many people of goodwill, and institutions, this joint work was completed,” the parish writes.
The local village administration donated an altar cross in honor of the feast and anniversaries.
