Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-NY) wrote to Secretary of State Antony Blinken this week about “the continued mistreatment of Serbians within Kosovo.”
The Representative, who is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Serbian Caucus, writes that she is deeply concerned about “the lack of action by the Biden administration.” The Caucus, founded in 2004, aims to enhance dialogue, highlight issues important to Serbian-Americans, and strengthen the bonds between Serbia and the United States.
Her letter was published yesterday by the Serbian Orthodox Church’s Diocese of Eastern America.
Rep. Tenney notes that the statements of the U.S. Embassy in Pristina against provocative actions by Kosovo authorities “do not appear to be having a significant impact on Prime Minister Kurti’s actions.” Thus, she requests specifics on what the State Department will do to ensure that Serbian minority rights are upheld.
She also calls for increased pressure on Kosovo authorities, including punitive measures if necessary.

The hierarch of the Serbian Eastern American Diocese, His Grace Bishop Irinej, has also appealed to Secretary Blinken about Serbian rights in Kosovo, as has Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. Meanwhile, His Eminence Metropolitan Luke of Zaporozhye has appealed to him about the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
