Thousands of people across Lebanon were injured when thousands of pagers detonated on September 17. Nine people were killed.

According to sources that spoke with Reuters, Israel’s Mossad spy agency planted explosives months ago inside 5,000 Taiwanese pagers ordered by the Lebanese group Hezbollah. They were detonated by a coded message sent to them last Tuesday.

The Patriarchate of Antioch issued the following statement regarding the attack by Israel:

Yesterday, September 17, the sinful hand of Israel perpetrated crime against our people in Lebanon and all regions.

What happened constitutes a blatant violation, a horrible assault, breaching everything related to humanity. It is also a dangerous precedent in using the means of communication as a tool for killing without distinction between military and civilians.

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East denounces and condemns what happened yesterday. It expresses its special condolences to the families of the victims and asks for healing for the injured, divine mercy for the martyrs, and divine solace for their families and relatives. We commend the national spirit that brought everyone together to denounce this heinous crime. We pray to God Almighty to support and assist the medical staff and ask Him for peace for Lebanon, Palestine, the East and the entire world.

Meanwhile, struck more than 1,000 targets across Lebanon yesterday, killing more than 350 people, including 24 children and 42 women as of Monday evening.
