The Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America’s House of Studies (AHOS) bestowed a special distinction upon its long-time faculty member His Eminence Metropolitan Hierotheos (Vlachos) this weekend.

The Metropolitan is widely recognized as a leading Orthodox theologian today and has served on the AHOS faculty since 2017 as professor of Dogmatics. The AHOS is the only Orthodox institution in America offering accredited doctoral studies.

On the afternoon of Sunday, September 22, Met. Hierotheos was visited by AHOS Dean Fr. Fadi Rabbat, who thanked him for his contribution to the establishment and operation of the Antiochian Archdiocese’s doctoral studies program, reports Romfea.

Fr. Fadi and those accompanying him were able to discuss Orthodox theology in America with the Metropolitan, emphasizing that it should clearly differentiate itself from Roman Catholic and Protestant theology and present the teachings of the Church Fathers, which is what the AHOS Program does.

Met. Hierotheos also recalled when he taught the current head of the Antiochian Archdiocese, His Eminence Metropolitan Saba, at the Balamand Theological School in Lebanon from 1988 to 1990, noting that the two hierarchs share a strong bond in Christ.

At the end of the meeting, the Dean of the AHOS presented Met. Hierotheos with its Cross Award in recognition of his overall contribution to the institution.
