The guardian of the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon was honored by the Holy Synod of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric last weekend.

Fr. Nectarios Yangson has traveled all over the Orthodox world with the Hawaiian Icon since it began streaming myrrh in 2008. And in the past year, he has visited several parishes of the Macedonian Orthodox Church.

The first such visit was to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church in Sterling Heights, Michigan, last August, and over the weekend of September 20–22, Fr. Nectarios and the Icon returned for the parish’s patronal feast and 50th anniversary, reports liturgija.mk.

On both Saturday and Sunday, Hierarchical Divine Liturgies were celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Metodij, Fr. Nectarios, and a host of Macedonian clergy from America and Canada, as well as OCA priest Fr. Matthew-Peter Butrie.

The service was sung by the host choir and the choir from the Antiochian Church in Detroit.

On Saturday, a festive banquet was held, during which Fr. Nectarios was awarded with the Order of St. Clement of Ohrid, III Degree, according to the decision of the Macedonian Holy Synod from September 12, 2024, for his love shown to the faithful of the American-Canadian Diocese of the Macedonian Church, in bringing the wonderworking Icon to its parishes.

“During all three days, the faithful people flowed like a river into the Church, from all churches and nationalities in Detroit, where they were anointed by the priests with the holy myrrh flowing from this miraculous icon,” writes Fr. Goran Trpchevski.

People waited in line to venerate the Icon throughout its three-day visit, singing Church hymns in honor of the Mother of God in a multitude of languages.
