Two Orthodox prayer services for an end to abortion are scheduled in different parts of New York state for October.

On Monday, October 14, the Holy Innocents Pro-Life Society of Sts. Theodore in Western New York will hold a moleben outside Planned Parenthood in West Seneca, New York, at 5 PM. On Saturday, October 19, the St. John the Forerunner Pro-Life Society will hold another moleben outside Planned Parenthood in Manhattan at 11:30 AM.

Both services will be led by the ROCOR priests: Fr. Andrew Hammond in Western New York and Abbot Zosimas (Krampis) in Manhattan.

As was reported previously, abortion rights will be on the ballot in November in New York and several other states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, and South Dakota.

Therefore, the St. John the Forerunner Pro-Life Society encourages all Orthodox Christians to get involved:

It’s not too late to start activities in your area, especially if you’re in the states mentioned above, to educate people on reality of abortion. People deserve to know the truth about what they are offered to vote for, and as Orthodox Christians we must tell the truth always, and this current challenge gives us a unique chance to serve God and neighbors by protecting the most helpless—children in the womb, remembering the words of Christ: Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me (Mt. 25:40).

The St. John Orthodox Pro-Life Society demonstrated outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Manhattan on September 28, displaying photos of aborted and preborn children to educate those seeking abortions. They joined other pro-life groups, including Roman Catholic Franciscans and Love Life NYC, using the opportunity to strengthen connections between the Orthodox community and the pro-life movement. A video of the event captures participants explaining their motivations for demonstrating despite the rain.

The Holy Innocents Pro-Life Society, created by the Brotherhood of the Optina Elders of St. Theodore ROCOR Church, held its inaugural moleben on September 30. Their first event took place outside Planned Parenthood in West Seneca, New York. The Society plans to continue their presence on Columbus Day, which coincides with the Feast of Protection of the Mother of God (old calendar), praying for all involved in abortions. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the church website for more information on joining their activities.
