The Metropolitan Council of the Orthodox Church in America met under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon of Washington and All America and Canada on Wednesday, October 9. It unanimously adopted the following resolution concerning Hurricane Milton:

The Metropolitan Council of the Orthodox Church in America resolved to express its concern for the communities of the Orthodox Church in America and for all the people of Florida threatened by Hurricane Milton, and to assure them of its prayer to Christ, “whom wind and sea obey” (Lk. 8:25), that he would graciously have mercy on those in the path of the hurricane and preserve life and property from the rage of this storm.

The Metropolitan Council serves as the ongoing administrative arm of the Church, tasked with executing decisions made at the All-American Council and maintaining operational continuity during the intervals between these gatherings.

It consists of the Metropolitan as chairman, the OCA Chancellor, the Secretary, the Treasurer, two representatives from each diocese (one priest and one layman elected by the Diocesan Assemblies), and three priests and three laymen elected by the All-American Council.

The OCA previously called on all parishes and faithful to offer prayers for all those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Donations towards Hurricane relief efforts can be made through International Orthodox Christian Charities or the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
