Flooding devastates Orthodox church in Thailand, priest and parishioners struggle to recover

An Orthodox church in Thailand was severely damaged by recent flooding.

The city of Chiang Mai, located within the Thai Diocese of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia of the Moscow Patriarchate, has been severely affected by the flooding, including the Church of St. Vladimir, Equal to the Apostles, which was built in 2015

Floodwaters have infiltrated not only the church itself but also the adjacent living quarters. The roof has been damaged, the interior furnishings have been rendered unusable, and both the plasterwork and paintings are in a dire state, the Exarchate reports.

Currently, it is impossible to conduct services in the church or even approach the building safely. Fr. Pavel Srisumoro, the parish priest, is working tirelessly with his congregation to mitigate the effects of this natural disaster. This effort is particularly challenging for him as he is also caring for his wife, who is battling cancer, and their two young children.
