Last week, a miraculous icon of St. Nektarios of Aegina, a great wonderworker and one of the most beloved saints of the Orthodox Church today, was brought to the Odessa Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

On November 13, diocesan vicar His Eminence Archbishop Diodore of Yuzhne arrived with the icon at the Church of St. Nicholas in the village of Novosilske, where it was greeted by the local dean and other visiting clerics, the diocese reports.

Abp. Diodore had just been in Greece, on the island of Aegina, for the feast of St. Nektarios on the new calendar on November 8.

Together with the clergy present at the St. Nicholas Church, he celebrated the Divine Liturgy, during which the faithful venerated the miraculous icon, praying for peace in Ukraine and for the health of all.

“We would like to note that the church could not accommodate all the people who came from the cities of Izmail, Reni, Bolgrad, and from the surrounding villages. Our Bessarabian region is multinational, and prayers during the service were offered in Church Slavonic and Romanian,” the diocese writes.

The icon was also taken to the St. Nicholas Monastery in Izmail, where it was met by the monastery’s abbot His Grace Bishop Alipiy of Tarutyne, another vicar of the Odessa Diocese, together with the brotherhood and parishioner.

An akathist was served before the icon, with prayers for peace in Ukraine.
