Another mass Baptism was held in Tbilisi’s Holy Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, November 23.

This time, more than 700 children became new Godchildren of His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia, reports Global Orthodox.

The joyous occasion coincided with the feast of St. George, the patron saint of Georgia, and the 20th anniversary of the consecration of the cathedral.

The Patriarch has been guiding the Georgian Church for more than 40 years and is the most trusted man in the entire nation. In an effort to improve Georgia’s dire post-Soviet demographic situation, the Church began holding mass Baptisms in January 2008, with the beloved primate personally becoming Godfather to the third and subsequent children of spouses who were married in the Church.

The service celebrated at Holy Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, is the 70th such mass Baptism service.

His Holiness currently has more than 48,000 Godchildren.

The previous mass Baptism was held last July. More than 1,200 children were baptized at that time.
