Belgrade, December 26, 2024
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, the main trustee of the Sima Andrejević-Igumanov Endowment, announced today that the results of the competition for awarding scholarships to pupils and students from large families have been determined.
The competition, which ran from November 1 to December 10, 2024, provided for the allocation of 86 annual scholarships to pupils and students from large families of lower economic status, reports the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The scholarship fund for the 2024-2025 school year amounts to $143,333 (15,480,000 dinars). Each scholarship is worth $1,667 (180,000 dinars), and it will be paid in 12 equal monthly installments.
The Sima Andrejević-Igumanov Endowment, on the initiative of Pat. Porfirije, established a special fund in 2022 for scholarships for gifted pupils and students from large families of lower economic status who have four or more children. When establishing the endowment, it was determined that funds for its operation would be collected from donations from well-meaning people driven by the desire to help others.
In the first two years of operation, the Endowment awarded 46 such scholarships. It has also awarded scholarships to students from the much-suffering Kosovo and Metohija.
The Patriarch has also been known to personally fund scholarships for students in Croatia, where he served as Metroplitan before his election as the Serbian primate.
