Greek Metropolitan Paul of Neochori reposes in the Lord

Metropolitan Paul of Neochori of the Orthodox Church of Greece reposed in the Lord on Monday, February 10,.

Metropolitan Paul had been hospitalized recently and was unable to overcome his illness. He served the Church as a hierarch for 30 years, reports Romfea.

His funeral will be served on Thursday, February 13, at the Church of St. Andrew of the Athens Nursing Home.

Met. Paul was born in Karditsa in 1941.

He graduated from the Theological School of Thessaloniki in 1969. He was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood in 1970 by Metropolitan Polyefktos of Sweden.

He served as parish priest at the Greek Orthodox cathedral in Stockholm (1970-1975), at the Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen in Kolonos (1975-1979), and at the Church of St. Charalambos in Ilisia (1979-1995).

On January 28, 1995, he was consecrated titular Bishop of Neochori at the Church of St. Charalambos in Ilisia, serving as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Athens.

On November 3, 2021, he was elevated to titular Metropolitan.
