The Bulgarian Monastery of Zographou on Mt. Athos has received a sizable donation for the purchase of new electric generators.

Zographou, built in the 10th century, is one of the 20 ruling monasteries on the Holy Mountain. Over the centuries, it has been a stronghold of Orthodox spirituality in the Bulgarian tradition. It houses priceless manuscripts, icons, and relics.

The donation comes from the Dokova and Dokov Foundation for the Future, amounting to $52,200 (50,000 Euros), reports tutun.bg.

The current generators in the monastery are outdated and technically obsolete, with insufficient power, which prevents a stable electricity supply. The new equipment will improve energy efficiency, provide more reliable electricity supply, and will work in sync with other energy sources.

The monastery requires reliable power both to support the monks’ everyday activities and to enable vital construction work needed to preserve and repair its historic structures.

Vladimir Dokov, the originator of the foundation, says he personally supports the initiative and is committed to providing assistance to the monastery.

The Dokova and Dokov Foundation for the Future focuses on public benefit activities, supporting significant projects in education, cultural heritage, and social responsibility.

Zographou’s abbot, Schema-Archimandrite Ambrose, reposed in the Lord last month after leading the monastery for more than 25 years.
