A parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia’s Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America has purchased a $2 million mansion and property to build a new church and an expansive Orthodox center in Hutto, Texas, just north of Austin.

Like many other churches in America, the Holy Mother of God Orthodox Church, currently in Georgetown, Texas, has experienced significant growth in recent years and outgrown its current building, which it moved into just three and a half years ago.

The rector, Fr. Moses McPherson, has enrolled 70 catechumens in the past five months, and more inquirers regularly visit. With the help of a generous donor, the church was able to secure a loan to purchase the new property in Hutto.

To help pay back the loan and develop the property into an Orthodox center, with its own church, the parish has launched a GiveSendGo campaign.

Fr. Moses writes:

As our congregation continues to flourish, we find ourselves in need of a new property where we can come together to worship, serve, and build a stronger, more vibrant community. Our current space has been a blessing, but we have outgrown it and are seeking a new home where we can continue to make a lasting impact…

This new space will provide room for worship services, community outreach programs, youth activities, and more. Your donations will help us turn this vision into a reality and create a place where faith, fellowship, and service can continue to thrive.

The church also produced a video showing the new property:

“We’re building a church. We’re setting up an enemy base in hostile territory, and we’re seeking to take back and conquer the land for Christ,” Fr. Moses says.

“Anytime that we endeavor to do that or set out upon doing that, of course we’re going to be met with a lot of resistance in the spiritual realm, because as St. Paul says, we wrestle not against flesh and blood.”

This video also explains incentives for various donation tiers.

Donations can be sent either via GiveSendGo or wire transfer. As of time of writing, $112,213 out of the $2 million goal have been raised.
