Hierarchs and clergy of the Bulgarian and Macedonian Orthodox Churches came together on Sunday to celebrate the feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, the Enlighteners of the Slavs, “as an expression of Orthodox unity between the fraternal Macedonian and Bulgarian peoples.”
On the eve of the feast, His Eminence Metropolitan Petar of Prespa and Pelagonia of the Macedonian Orthodox Church-Ohrid Archbishopric presided over Vespers at the Cathedral of Sts. Peter and Paul in Silistra, Bulgaria, in the presence of the host bishop His Eminence Metropolitan Jacob of Dorostol of the Bulgarian Church, and his vicar Bishop Boris, reports the Macedonin Prespa Diocese.
On the feast day itself, Met. Jacob presided, celebrating with Met. Petar and Bp. Boris, as well as Met. Gregory of Kumanovo, retired Met. Joseph of Kumanovo, and Bp. Nikolai of Velica of the Macedonian Church.
Priests and deacons from both Local Churches also took part in the service.
“This shared prayerful joy was a testimony to the spiritual connection between the two Orthodox peoples, Macedonian and Bulgarian, who through the holy work of the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius were grounded in Christ’s truth,” the Prespa Diocese concludes.
