Chokchok, Turkana County, Kenya, May 27, 2025
The Diocese of Eldoret and Northern Kenya of the Patriarchate of Alexandria has been actively missionizing the people of the remote desert region of Turkana County with financial support from the Florida-based Orthodox Christian Mission Center for more than a year now.
And the mission is bearing great fruit. On May 23, OCMC reported on the recent Baptism of 182 catechumens in Chokchok. “Despite logistical and environmental challenges, these Baptisms symbolize new spiritual life emerging even in the most barren landscapes,” the Mission Center writes.
And this represents only the latest round of Baptisms. In total, more than 700 have received the washing of regeneration over the past 12 months.
“These transformative moments embody our mission of bringing people into the fullness of life in Christ,” writes OCMC.
The Mission Center has been laboring in Turkana for many years now. Already in 2016 it was reported that more than 1,500 had embraced the Orthodox faith since 2007.
