Amid the whirlwind of humanitarian crisis shaking southern Syria, particularly the city of Suwayda, due to recent inter-communal tensions and clashes between Druze and Bedouins, the Patriarchate of Antioch continues its unceasing effort to uphold the Christian principles of love, compassion and solidarity, playing an important spiritual and humanitarian role.

As part of supporting those affected, a delegation from the Department of Ecumenical Relations and Development of the Patriarchate of Antioch delivered a quantity of medications for kidney patients to a hospital in the area. The medications cover approximately 200 dialysis sessions and are part of the medicines delivered by the Department’s humanitarian mission that arrived in the area last week, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

The Department’s delegation also provided psychological assistance in cooperation with a psychiatrist, treating cases and providing necessary psychiatric medications and psychological support sessions for men, women and children at two shelter centers in the city of Shahba.

Additionally, they met with the city’s legal committee, which designated them as the sole authority authorized to conduct psychological support sessions for affected families in local shelter centers.

As part of its effort to support the most vulnerable population groups, the delegation also distributed food packages to the Association for People with Physical Disabilities and to affected families.
