A team of nine volunteer doctors and nurses from Greece completed a week-long medical mission to Ghana, providing free healthcare services to those in need across multiple communities. The humanitarian initiative was organized by the Holy Metropolis of Accra under the blessing of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

The medical team arrived in Accra, Ghana’s capital, on Wednesday, August 27. The mission was implemented through cooperation between the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana’s Ministry of Health, the Honorary Consulate General of Greece in Ghana, the Greek Community of Accra, the Brotherhood of Orthodox Foreign Mission of Thessaloniki, and the Constantine Foundation NGO, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency.

Upon arrival at the Holy Metropolis facilities, the team sorted and distributed 22 suitcases of donated medications collected in Greece from various organizations, companies, parishes, and private individuals.

On August 28, the medical team, accompanied by a Ghanaian physician, three nurses, three priests, and four members of the Orthodox Youth of Ghana, traveled to the Ecclesiastical Community of St. John Chrysostom in Gomoa Fomena village, Central Region, 60 miles from Accra.

Eight medical stations were established inside the church, where 300 patients received consultations and treatment over six hours. Children attended an educational session on proper hygiene practices for hands, body, and teeth as preventive healthcare measures.

The mission’s final stop on Thursday, September 4, was Akim Breman village in Ghana’s Central Region, where more than 250 people with serious health problems received medication and medical advice. Members of Ghana’s Orthodox Youth provided essential support throughout the mission, facilitating patient care and the doctors' visits across the country.

Metropolitan Daniel of Accra accompanied the medical mission throughout.
