The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has announced it is co-sponsoring the Let Children Live campaign, a faith-based initiative organized by Churches for Middle East Peace that focuses on Palestinian children in Gaza and the West Bank.
According to the campaign organizers, more than 2 million children live under brutal oppression in these territories. The campaign aims to move beyond viewing these children as statistics by encouraging Christian communities to pray for them by name and engage in advocacy on their behalf.
The initiative invites parishes and individuals to receive the name of a Palestinian child, pray for that child in personal devotions or during worship services, and use provided resources for advocacy efforts. A toolkit for action includes prayers, liturgical materials, and advocacy steps that communities can incorporate into parish life.
As the announcement states, Orthodox Christians are called to love and protect the vulnerable, to be peacemakers, and to proclaim the dignity of every human life. The Archdiocese invites every parish, priest, and member to participate in the campaign and thereby “bear witness to Christ’s love by remembering children the world has too often forgotten.”
The campaign is sponsored by a wide range of Christian denominations and organizations, including the Presbyterian Church (USA), the National Council of Churches, the Episcopal Peace Fellowship, Mennonite Central Committee U.S., various Catholic religious orders, the United Methodist Church’s General Board of Church and Society, and numerous other faith-based groups.
Participants can register and access resources through the Churches for Middle East Peace website. The campaign organizers say they will provide additional prayers, solidarity opportunities, and advocacy materials throughout the fall season.
