Sidorovka, Tatarstan, Russia, November 19, 2025
The Russian Orthodox Church opened its 272nd humanitarian center yesterday, November 18.
The new Angels of Hope House of Mercy is located at the Church of St. Tikhon of Moscow in Sidorovka, Republic of Tatarstan. The center provides food and material assistance to those in need and sends humanitarian aid to the war zone. Hot meals will also be distributed, and there are plans to establish a shelter for people in difficult situations, reports Patriarchia.ru.
The blessing was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Gavriil of Naberezhnye Chelny and Elabuga.
“The House of Mercy is very necessary in our village of Sidorovka, as this is a difficult area where mostly low-income families live, with many elderly people and people without a fixed place of residence. Our social service began within our parish. We held the White Flower campaign, organized charitable Sunday lunches, organized celebrations, workshops and holiday greetings,” said Irina Makarevskaya, senior sister of mercy of the Varvara Sisterhood.
The Angels of Hope House of Mercy is the fourth humanitarian aid center in the Naberezhnye Chelny Diocese.
Today, 272 church humanitarian aid centers operate in Russia and other countries. Most of them were opened with the support of the Synodal Department for Charity. Staff at humanitarian centers help those in difficult life situations—large families, single mothers, homeless people, people with disabilities, the elderly, and fire victims. People can receive food, clothing, hygiene kits, strollers, baby cribs and other necessary items. Assistance is provided free of charge regardless of citizenship or religion.
