His Grace Bishop Timotei of Spain and Portugal consecrated a new socio-educational center for the Romanian community in Torrent, a town located 4 miles from Valencia, on Friday.

Bp. Timotei was joined in the service by Fr. Vasile Pop, diocesan counselor for the Education and Youth Activities Sector, and Archdeacon Spiridon Burlacu, diocesan counselor for the Economic Sector, reports the Basilica News Agency.

The event was attended by representatives of Spanish and Romanian authorities.

The Bishop of Spain and Portugal emphasized the importance of this space for the life of the Romanian community in Torrent and congratulated the parish for its sustained effort to create a place of formation and support for the faithful.

The hierarch awarded several distinctions for involvement in the project's realization: the Order of the Holy Apostle James the Great to Fr. Vasile Pop, the parish priest; the Commendation of the Holy Apostle James the Great to Ciprian Donia, coordinator of the works; and certificates of recognition to all who contributed to the center’s arrangement.

The new parish center, located at 25 Calle Virgen de la Paz in Torrent, is dedicated to the Martyr Liviu Galaction of Cluj. The building was purchased by the community from the same owner from whom the space for the current church had been acquired in 2021.

After extensive renovation and arrangement works, the center has been operational since October and hosts socio-educational activities for children, youth, and families.
