Cherkasy, Cherkasy Province, Ukraine, December 10, 2025
His Eminence Metropolitan Theodosy of Cherkasy and Kanev remains in serious condition following his emergency hospitalization late last month due to suspected poisoning.
According to a statement from the Cherkasy Diocese yesterday, his health indicators have stabilized but continue to cause concern.
The diocese released the following statement:
Brothers and Sisters!
We inform you that as of today, Metropolitan Theodosy’s condition remains stable. Doctors have managed to significantly reduce the indicators of inflammatory damage to internal organs, although they still exceed the permissible norm many times over.
Vladyka is under round-the-clock medical supervision, and intensive therapy is being conducted. Vladyka regularly receives Holy Communion.
We ask you not to cease your prayers for the gravely ill Metropolitan Theodosy!
Met. Theodosy was urgently hospitalized in late November after doctors discovered certain health indicators had increased 10–15 times over normal levels. It is believed he was poisoned, presumably with heavy metals. Testing for poisons could take about a month.
Met. Theodosy has spent years under house arrest on fabricated charges, and his diocese has become a prime target for violent church seizures. This is not the first attempt on his life. The health of many Ukrainian Orthodox Church hierarchs has suffered greatly under the pressure of state persecution, including Met. Theodosy, who suffered a heart attack in July 2024. However, the persecution continues.
