Reddick, Florida, December 11, 2025
The Annunciation of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Monastery in Reddick, Florida, has initiated a comprehensive restoration project after sustaining significant damage from recent hurricanes and storms.
The monastery, established in September 1998 as one of the many monastic communities founded by the great Elder Ephraim of Philotheou and Arizona, traces its spiritual heritage to the 13th-century Monastery of St. John the Forerunner in Serres, Greece.
According to Gerondissa Agapia and the sisterhood, the storms caused major wind and water damage to the monastery’s two main buildings—the church and the residence/workshop buildings. The damage affected roofs, wood siding, internal and external walls, flooring, and HVAC systems, resulting in ongoing water intrusion issues.
The restoration work will proceed in two phases. Phase One focuses on urgent repairs needed immediately to stop water intrusion and prevent further deterioration of the main buildings. Without these corrections, the monastery’s ability to hold church services and operate its workshops, which generate operating income, would be compromised.
Phase Two, planned for 2026, will address deferred maintenance on the guest house, storage building, monastery grounds, infrastructure, and equipment. The project aims to resolve all property issues that have accumulated since the monastery's founding.
The monastery has approximately $150,000 available from insurance proceeds and monastery funds to begin Phase One work in December 2025, which will cover roofing, siding, and water damage remediation. However, there remains a $350,000 budget shortfall to complete all Phase One and Phase Two work.
The sisterhood has invited donations through three methods: online contributions via credit card, debit card, or ACH transfer on the monastery's website; checks mailed to the monastery at 13486 NW Hwy 225, Reddick, FL 32696; and securities such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and ETFs for tax-advantaged charitable contributions.
