Photo: wiadomosci.cerkiew.pl The Orthodox Brotherhood of Youth in Poland and the ELEOS Orthodox Center of Mercy of the Białystok-Gdańsk Diocese have completed this year’s Christmas Food Collection, preparing over 1,400 packages for the poorest residents of Podlaskie Province before Christmas.
The main goal of the initiative was to gather food products to support people in difficult financial situations during the Nativity season. The collection was conducted in stores of the PSS Społem chain in Białystok. Customers could donate long-shelf-life items such as flour, sugar, rice, pasta, oil, and candy to volunteers on duty—youth from the Brotherhood and scouts, reports cerkiew.pl.
Collection boxes were also placed in Białystok parishes on Sunday, December 14.
“I believe this event is important because in a short time we can help many people,” said Natalia Pawluczuk, coordinator of the initiative. “Although the event lasted only three days, we managed to prepare a very large number of packages. They will reach those in need during the holiday season, which is associated with warmth and closeness to one another.”
“Charitable events occupy an important place in the Brotherhood’s activities. Although we organize many meetings and pilgrimages, this particular initiative brings special satisfaction,” noted Aleksandra Rogoza, chairwoman of the Orthodox Brotherhood of Youth in Poland. “We want to do as much as possible so that help reaches the greatest number of people.”
