A 3D guide to the unique frescoes of the Holy Trinity-Danilov Monastery in Pereslavl-Zalessky, a monument from the second half of the 17th century, is now available online.

The new resource provides an opportunity to explore the unique frescoes executed by an artel of “royal” icon painters from Kostroma under the direction of Gury Nikitin between 1662 and 1668. Users can immerse themselves in the world of the Book of Revelation while also experiencing the historical epoch in Russian state life that gave rise to these frescoes, reports Blagovest-Info.

The main subjects of the frescoes are accompanied by explanations and commentaries. The site also offers the possibility of listening to the complete Book of Revelation in audio format.

The 3D tour allows viewers to examine the Trinity Cathedral’s frescoes from four levels—from the floor to the drum—providing direct perspectives that would be impossible during an ordinary church visit. The main goal of the project is to prepare visitors for a trip to Danilov Monastery and to deepen their perception of this 17th-century artistic monument.

Project director Kirill Vakh, General Director of the Indrik Research and Education Center, explained that the project aims to use modern technology to awaken interest in traditional national culture and to reveal how iconography served as the language of theology in forming the worldview of previous generations.
