The Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia is working to open a new seminary in Europe next year.

The relevant decision was made by the ROCOR Holy Synod at its session in December 2025, reports the Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe.

The new institute will be dedicated to St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco, the Wonderworker of Western Europe. It is planned to begin operations in autumn 2027 and will operate alongside ROCOR’s existing English-language seminary in Jordanville, New York.

The institute represents an important step in preparing future clergy and developing theological education among the faithful of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

Work is currently underway on academic programs for the new seminary. Church authorities have launched a survey to determine interest levels in various study formats among potential students and the broader Church community. Responses to the online questionnaire will help shape the curriculum and direction of the institute according to the needs of the Church.

The survey is available only in Russian, as the institute will operate in the Russian language.
