Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) has announced that His Grace Bishop Gerasim of Fort Worth (Orthodox Church in America) will lead a Real Break pilgrimage to the country of Georgia from May 19–29. The trip is open to college students and young adults between the ages of 18 and 25.
Over the course of 10 days, participants will travel through Tbilisi, the mountains and monasteries of Eastern Georgia, and the landscapes of Western Georgia. Planned stops include the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where the Holy Robe of Christ is kept, and sites associated with St. Nina, Equal-to-the-Apostles and Enlightener of Georgia. The group will also pray and worship in ancient monasteries where monastic life has continued for over a millennium.
Bp. Gerasim is known as a spiritual child of Blessed Seraphim (Rose). He labored in monasticism in California and Alaska for more than 30 years and served as second abbot of St. Herman’s Monastery in Platina, California. He was ordained to the episcopacy in 2021 and serves as auxiliary to the Diocese of the South of the Orthodox Church in America. He has traveled to Georgia since the early 1990s, developing lasting relationships with clergy and monastics there.
Each day of the pilgrimage will include time for Church services, group reflection and discussion, and exploration of the surrounding areas.
See the OCF site for more information.
Real Break is a national OCF program that offers college students an alternative to conventional spring break, centered on service, worship, and fellowship. Each trip includes daily morning and evening prayer and nightly discussions, with clergy accompanying the group throughout.
