More than 200 people were received into the Orthodox Church in Finland this spring, continuing a tradition of welcoming new members in the weeks leading up to Pascha.
The majority of conversions typically take place during the period from Lazarus Saturday through Holy Saturday, the Finnish Church notes.
The Church’s news notes that most of those joining this year were received through the Sacrament of Chrismation, as they had already been baptized elsewhere in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Those who had not previously been baptized were received through both Baptism and Chrismation.
The Finnish Orthodox Church offers free catechism courses open to anyone interested.
In England, more than 250 have been received this year as fruit of the catechetical program of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain (Patriarchate of Constantinople).
