Geronda Joseph, the abbot of St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Monastery in Roscoe, New York, reposed in the Lord today, Bright Friday, which marks the feast of the Life-giving Spring.

The elder had been sick for many years with cancer.

Archimandrite Joseph had served as the abbot of the monastery since its founding by Elder Ephraim of Philotheou and Arizona 27 years ago. He first came to America from Philotheou Monastery on Mt. Athos in 1993 to live at St. Anthony’s Monastery in Arizona, also founded by Elder Ephraim.

In January 1999, St. Nektarios Monastery was founded with seven brothers from St. Anthony’s, including Geronda Joseph.

May Geronda Joseph’s memory be eternal! Χριστός Ανέστη!
