The newly elected and enthroned Patriarch of Georgia, His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Shio III, expressed his support for the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church and its primate His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine on the day of his enthronement.
The UOC was represented by one of its most senior hierarchs, His Eminence Metropolitan Sergei of Ternopil. Speaking with the Ukrainian hierarch, Pat. Shio said:
Give my bow to His Beatitude. I really respect and really love him.
While handful of Georgian hierarchs support the schismatics of the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” it is known that Pat. Shio supports holy Orthodoxy in Ukraine.
Met. Onuphry offered congratulations to Pat. Shio saying: “Your election is a living testimony to the high trust of the episcopate, clergy, monastics, and laity, while also accepting the great responsibility of primatial ministry, connected with concern for the Church’s unity, the purity of Orthodox faith, and the spiritual guidance of the flock entrusted to you.”
“The Ukrainian Orthodox Church holds deep respect for our sister Georgian Orthodox Church, its faithfulness to holy Orthodoxy, canonical order, and Sacred Tradition,” the Ukrainian primate said.
“On this significant day of your enthronement, we humbly offer prayers to the Almighty Risen Christ, asking Him for generous and abundant mercies for you and warmly wishing that He might grant Your Holiness good health, vigor of spirit, spiritual wisdom, and His inexhaustible help in your future primatial ministry.”
