The Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God and St. Jon the Merciful in Košice, Slovakia, was blessed with a new icon this weekend.

The cathedral posted on Facebook: “A new icon of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco has been added to the Košice Cathedral, written on Holy Mount Athos. We pray for an abundance of God’s grace upon the donor, Antonij, and his family.”

As a hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, St. John served around the entire world and today he is venerated throughout the Orthodox world, far beyond the bounds of the Russian Orthodox Church.

He spent the last years of his episcopal ministry and life in San Francisco, where his holy relics lie in repose.

Last year, OrthoChristian also reported on the growing veneration of America’s newest saint, Matushka Olga of Alaska, in Slovakia.
