Orthodox hierarchs from across the Chicago area gathered on June 21 to welcome His Grace Bishop Spyridon of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia to his new See, meeting at the bishop’s residence.
Bp. Spyridon was consecrated to the episcopacy in February, initially serving as a vicar bishop of the Canadian Diocese. He was subsequently elected to the Chicago See following the repose of His Eminence Archbishop Peter.
The gathering brought together Archbishop Daniel of the Orthodox Church in America, Metropolitan Longin of the Serbian Church, Metropolitan Nicolae of the Romanian Church, Bishop Dionysius of the Greek Orthodox Church, and Bishop Spyridon.
The meeting was held at Bp. Spyridon’s invitation, as he wished to be introduced to his fellow hierarchs in the region.
Discussion at the meeting included plans for cooperation among the Orthodox faithful of the Chicago area and ways in which the hierarchs could support one another’s work. Those present expressed the desire to continue meeting and working together.
