His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia marked the 30th anniversary of his consecration to the episcopate on the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, celebrating his jubilee at Holy Trinity Monastery with the brotherhood and pilgrims.

Abp. Gabriel is a graduate of Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, located at the monastery, and has long supported both institutions through frequent visits over the years.

His Grace Bishop Luke of Syracuse, abbot of the monastery, concelebrated the Divine Lturgy with his brother bishop and presented Abp. Gabriel with an archpastoral staff at its conclusion, wishing him the help of St. John the Baptist on his anniversary, the monastery reports.

Abp. Gabriel entered Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary in 1980 and graduated in 1984, then remained at the seminary as an instructor of Russian culture and other subjects until 1989. He was tonsured a monk with the name Gabriel in March 1996 and was ordained hierodeacon and later hieromonk that same year.

On July 7, 1996, he was consecrated bishop of Brisbane, vicar of the Australian and New Zealand Diocese, at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, New York. He was appointed Bishop of Montreal and Canada in May 2008 and was elevated to the rank of Archbishop in May 2011.

In June 2016, the Synod of Bishops of ROCOR appointed Abp. Gabriel as a member of the Board of Trustees of Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary, representing the Synod of Bishops on the board.
