The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of the Orthodox Church in America has published a second edition of a bilingual booklet containing the Akathist to St. Olga of Alaska along with a brief account of her life.
St. Olga, matushka of the Yup’ik village of Kwethluk, was canonized by the Orthodox Church in America in November 2023.
The booklet was released with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Nathaniel and presents the akathist and life account in both English and Romanian, extending its reach to the faithful, the Episcopate reports.
The text is based on the original composed by His Eminence Archbishop Alexei of Sitka and Alaska and published by the Orthodox Diocese of Alaska. The Romanian translation and the adaptation into modern English were carried out by the ROEA Department of Publications.
St. Olga is remembered for her humility, compassion, and lifelong service to her community, and in particular for her care for families, mothers, and those enduring suffering. Devotion to her has grown steadily among Orthodox Christians throughout North America since her canonization.
The akathist is intended for use in parish worship and personal prayer, and as a resource for those seeking to learn more about the life of North America's newest saint.
