Gorno-Altaysk Diocese
Bishops from across the Russian Orthodox Church gathered in Gorno-Altaysk, Altai Republic, on August 31 to mark the 100th anniversary of the repose of St. Makary, Metropolitan of Moscow and Altai, and the 10th anniversary of the transfer of his holy relics from the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra to Gorno-Altaysk.
St. Makary, known as the Apostle to the Altai, spent decades evangelizing the Altai region before later serving as Metropolitan of Moscow (he was succeeded by Patriarch St. Tikhon). He reposed in 1926, and his relics were transferred to Gorno-Altaysk in 2016.
His Eminence Metropolitan Rostislav of Tomsk and Asino led the Divine Liturgy at the St. Makary of Altai Cathedral, concelebrated by eight other hierarchs along with a large gathering of clergy from the Gorno-Altaysk Diocese and elsewhere, the diocese reports.

During the augmented litany, His Grace Bishop Roman of Rubtsovsk and Aleisk offered a prayer for Holy Rus’, and His Grace Bishop Makary of Gorno-Altaysk and Chemal offered a prayer for the construction of a cathedral in Gorno-Altaysk.
The choir of the St. Makary Cathedral sang the liturgical hymns. Archpriest Georgy Balakin, secretary of the Gorno-Altaysk diocese, delivered the sermon. The hierarchs and clergy then sang the magnification to St. Makary before his holy relics.
After the Liturgy, Metropolitan Rostislav addressed the faithful with a pastoral word on St. Makary and presented Bishop Makary with an icon of the Holy Trinity. Bishop Makary thanked the visiting hierarchs for their shared prayer and gave each of them an icon of St. Makary.
