A New York mission of the Orthodox Church in America’s Archdiocese of New York and New Jersey recently received a sizable donation.
A $100,000 donation from a private foundation will enable St. Innocent Orthodox Mission in Oneonta, New York, to purchase a church building of its own, giving the community a permanent home after nearly three decades without one, the diocese reports.
The mission has existed since 1997, and like many other Orthodox parishes, it’s seen its growth pick up pace in recent years. The gift marks a major milestone in that growth, giving the faithful a building they can call their own as they continue building their community.
His Eminence Archbishop Michael and the Diocese of New York and New Jersey joined the mission’s faithful in thanking God for the donation and for this new chapter in the mission’s life.
Special gratitude was extended to the Orthodox Institute for Missions and its Director of Philanthropic Initiatives, Presbytera Maria Koulianos, for facilitating the gift.
“May God richly bless Presbytera Maria for her efforts on behalf of St. Innocent Mission and grant her many years,” the mission said.
