His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem and His Holiness Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria visited the site on the Jordan River where the Lord Jesus Christ was baptized by St. John the Baptist on Monday, September 28.
The troparion of Theophany was sung there in Greek and Church Slavonic, reports the Bulgarian Patriarchate.
At the site, Patriarch Daniil, who began his visit to the Jerusalem Patriarchate on September 25, prayed for God’s blessing and support for Orthodox Christians in Bulgaria and around the world.
The Patriarchs also visited the spring of St. John the Baptist, where the Forerunner of Christ is believed to have lived. Caves where desert ascetics struggled still survive in the region, and because of its exceptional spiritual and historical value, the area has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Bulgarian Church’s delegation was received at the Church of St. John the Baptist. There, Patriarch Daniil and Patriarch Theophilos also prayed for the repose of the late Prince Kardam of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, who is commemorated by a memorial plaque in front of the church.
The delegation also visited the Orthodox Theological University of the Jerusalem Patriarchate in Jordan, which included a tour of its extensive library.
Earlier, the two Patriarchs concelebrated the feast of the Elevation of the Life-Giving Cross at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre on September 27.
