The famous myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon and the relics of two American saints marked the 62nd anniversary of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Randolph, New Jersey (OCA), over the weekend of October 10-11, when His Eminence Archbishop Michael of New York and New Jersey visited the parish.
At Great Vespers on Saturday, His Eminence presented Archpriest David Fox and the parish with an antimension, a cloth that covers and stands in for the altar table, on which the Eucharist is prepared. The new antimension contains relics of St. Basil Martysz, a Polish saint and protégé of St. Tikhon of Moscow who labored in America and Canada before returning to Poland, where he was murdered in 1945, the NY-NJ Diocese reports.
Archbishop Michael also presented the parish with a reliquary containing a sacred fragment of the remains of St. Olga of Alaska, the first North American female saint, gifted by His Eminence Archbishop Alexei and the Diocese of Sitka and Alaska.
“The faithful of Holy Trinity will venerate and treasure this relic of the simple woman who led a quiet life of service and healing ministry to women,” the diocese writes.
The miraculous myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon came to Holy Trinity on Sunday morning. A large crowd of parishioners and visitors welcomed and venerated the icon before the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy and again afterward, during an Akathist to the Icon.
During the Liturgy, His Eminence blessed six catechumens who are currently preparing for Baptism and Chrismation under Fr. David’s guidance.
“Long after the icon left Holy Trinity, the scent of its holiness lingered in the church,” the report concludes.
